  • How do you answer when Kevin O’Leary asks, “Why do I need you?”

When Kevin O’Leary asks, “Why do I need you if I can start the same business?” it’s a fair question. The answer is that you bring something to the table that no one else does: your unique perspective and expertise. Your experience and skillset, when combined with O’Leary’s extensive knowledge of business/investment/finance, can create a synergistic effect that makes the idea bigger than either one of you could have accomplished on their own.

You bring valuable new insights that help refine ideas and create viable solutions to problems. You also may have contacts or resources at your disposal which could prove invaluable in starting up and running the business. For instance – if a legal problem arises while setting up the enterprise, someone with an understanding of the law (you) will be able to more effectively deal with such issues more than someone without formal legal training (O’Leary).

Your unique experiences will help shape decision-making throughout each step of building the venture as well as making sure everyone works well together towards a common goal. Plus, it never hurts to have an extra set of hands or a creative voice helping out where you can.
