If decade-long friendships can fall apart over small disagreements, what does that say about marrying a friend? We often believe that years of knowing someone create an unshakable bond, but in reality, friendships survive because people choose to stay, forgive, and overlook flaws. Marriage, however, requires a different kind of commitment.

Friendships allow space when emotions run high, while marriage demands confrontation. A friend can drift in and out of our lives, but a spouse is a constant presence, even when feelings waver. If friendships struggle to endure what strangers might resolve, then marriage needs more than just companionship—it calls for emotional discipline, strong conflict resolution, and the ability to put the relationship above personal pride.

Maybe the real question isn’t whether we should marry our friends, but whether we are willing to become the kind of partners who can sustain both friendship and marriage through every challenge.
